About the event
About 48 years ago, on July 20, 1969, from behind the Iron Curtain in communist Romania, ten-year-old Bogdan Marcu watched Neil Armstrong take the first step on the moon. That moment unleashed a space dream and a chain of events that included a gutsy escape plan, a violent confrontation with a miners’ revolt and saving the life of a total stranger, Harold Graifer — a Jewish engineer from Los Angeles.
Our communities will come together to hear this incredible story in person. Marcu, now an engineer at RocketDyne also a professor at the University of Southern California, who previously worked at SpaceX, will tell his story along with members of the Graifer family.
